1948 Eames for Evans & Herman Miller Set of Six DCM Dining Chairs w/ Provenance
Listed for sale is one of the rarest and best documented sets of Eames DCM chairs in existence. First and foremost, it is a set of six original matching maple DCM dining chairs, produced by Evans. This set came from the estate of the original owner, who meticulously documented their pieces. This set is accompanied with the original receipt from 1948 as well as receipts from 1973, when Herman Miller repaired some of the welds underneath the chairs.
These are considered 1st-generation examples, with rounded metalwork around the backrest, threaded glides, and Evans labels. The chairs are in very nice condition for their age, noting that the undersides of some show welded repairs done by the Herman Miller factory. As this is documented, it adds to the provenance and history of the pieces. The plywood on these chairs shows nice patina, having never been refinished. Shock mounts are overall in nice condition, with one example having recently re-done backrest shock mounts.
Overall, this is a phenomenal and museum-grade set, which you are unlikely to see on the market again for many years.
