1958 B3 Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer Attributed to Standard Mobel
This is a B3 Wassily chair, originally designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925. This example seemingly dates to 1958 based on its markings, and is attributed to Standard Mobel, Berlin. The design features a seamless chromed-steel tubular frame, and retains its natural vegetable-dyed saddle brown leather upholstery. Its also very possible that this is a more recent production Wassily chair, where a previous owner chose to reupholster it to give the appearance and patina of the original Standard Mobel examples. Please feel free to assess as you see fit.
This piece measures 27 inches long, 31 inches wide, and has a back height of 28.75 inches. The seat height is 16.5 inches. This has some unusual characteristics and wear, such as the bend in the tube on the back. The leather upholstery has several watermarks, scrapes & scuffs throughout. The leather has been broken-in, and has caramelized quite beautifully. Overall, this chair is in good vintage condition with evident wear from use. Please see photos. It came from an estate in Princeton, NJ.
