1960s Set of Twelve Risom Dining Chairs, Model C-140 by Jens Risom Designs in Walnut with Original Fabric
This is a set of 12 Playboy Armchairs (10 are shown in the image, but we have twelve that are sold as the set), Model C-140, designed by Jens Risom for Risom Designs in 1958. The listed price includes the set of 12. Their simple design features an oiled walnut frame, inset with dark yellow upholstered seats and backrests. Their high sculptural wood arms foreshadow Risom’s future productions, and the C-140 is widely considered to be his most seminal work.
As noted, the listed price is for 12 chairs, though we'd be willing to break them up into a smaller set if desired.
Each chair measures 20.25 inches deep, 21.25 inches wide, and 32 inches high. Their arm height is 26.5 inches, and their seat height is 18 inches.
This set retains the original upholstery and foam, both of which show age and use. The foam has hardened, and the fabric has faded. The walnut frames look great despite having some some signs of wear, especially around the bottom of the legs. They’ve also darkened a bit on the arms from use. Overall, this important set of chairs is in very good vintage condition. Please see photos. They came from an Ivy League University building.
