1960s Hans Wegner for GETAMA Four Seat Sofa in Oak with Grey Velvet Upholstery
This is a 1960s Danish Four-Seater Sofa, Model GE236/4, initially designed by Hans J. Wegner for GETAMA in 1955. The ergonomically driven design features deep, comfortable cushions, and has traditional hand-crafted joinery. This sofa was recently reupholstered in a handsome grey velvet fabric, which remains in very good condition. While appearing sleek and having a modernist feel, the silhouette’s construction employs traditional Scandinavian cabinetmaking techniques that render it a substantial, timeless piece.
The sofa measures 32 inches deep, 92.75 inches wide, and 28.25 inches high. The piece has a seat height of 16 inches, and an arm height of 21.75 inches. There is some light wear on the sofa’s frame, and there is a thoughtfully executed small repair on the back of one of the legs. Overall, this sofa is in very good condition.
