2000s Royalton Two-Seater Sofa by Phillipe Starck for Driade in Aluminum and Tan Fabric
This is a “Royalton” Sofa, designed by Philippe Starck and produced by Driade shortly after the design's introduction in 1988. In the late 1980s, Starck was approached by hotelier Ian Schraeger to design a line of furniture for a new project he was working on, the Royalton Hotel in New York City. This large-scale sofa was designed for the lobby. The sofa features curved front legs in polished cast aluminum, and legs of solid beech in reverse. The sofa has a solid steel frame with a thick foam pad. It is currently upholstered in a nubby light tan fabric.
The sofa measures 85 inches wide, 48 inches deep and 46 inches high. The piece is in good to very good condition, but remains vintage and has been used. The legs have some minor marks and the upholstery shows wear as noted in the photos. The sofa could certainly be used as/is, or would be a great candidate for new upholstery as well.
