1958 Aluminum Group Lounge Chair, Model 682 by Ray and Charles Eames for Herman Miller in Rare Ratan Fabric
This is an Eames Aluminum Group lounge chair and coordinating ottoman, model 682, initially designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller in 1958. This early set dates to around the same time, as evidenced by its remaining brown Saran upholstery. The Saran is a very rare and early material that was discontinued early on. It has a four-star cast-aluminum “contract” base and features a sling seat that offers a very comfortable lounging experience.
The lounge chair measures 32.25 inches long, 25.75 inches wide, and 39 inches high. It has a seat height of 14.5 inches. The ottoman measures 21.5 inches wide by 21 inches deep, and is 18.5 inches tall. The original Saran fabric is in useable condition, with ample wear apparent on the seat. The ottoman has a visible hole on its top. The black enameled-aluminum arms are in great shape with a few light scuffs, and the base has a light patina. The other example that is photographed is not included (as shown with a tear in the seat) but is available for purchase separately. Overall, this set is in good original condition with age-appropriate wear. Please see photos.
